Put in Location: | Use driveway on west side of river, south side of bridge, to unload gear. Park on nearby street north of St. Charles Road. Mowed area leading to river. |
Take out Location: | Take out on east side of river at Lion's Park. Lock up boat, call Lyft rideshare to take me back to vehicle, then pick up kayak. |
Report: | The water was very high and fast after a good couple days of rain--almost as high as it was this spring. There were 2-3 partial downfall blockages--not complete, but some tricky. The high water helped to create routes around them, but the fast water meant care had to be taken in picking your spot and not getting "strained." I was not forced to exit the kayak. This is the furthest north I have put in on the west branch, and I'm not sure if you could start further upriver at the quarry. I have now completed the west branch and main branch all the way to the confluence with the Des Plaines. I have done part of the east branch, but would like to start further upriver some time. |
